We are seeking a full-time, detail-oriented and skilled Architectural Technician/Technologist to join our friendly team in our Brighton and Hove studio.

The successful candidate will play a key role in translating design concepts into technical drawings, ensuring compliance with building regulations, and supporting the delivery of high-quality architectural projects from concept through to completion.

In addition, the ideal candidate will be passionate about producing good, clear drawings for both large and small projects alike and will take pride in their work whilst being inquisitive, thorough, and meticulous in their detailing.

Miller Bourne Architects is a practice of 16 people, based in open plan studios overlooking the sea on the coast in Hove.

We work on projects ranging from £1M to £25M, predominantly in the education, residential, community and sporting sectors, and so experience in these sectors would be advantageous.

New staff are expected to work in the office for an initial period, but following that, we offer hybrid working.

Brighton and Hove is a fantastic place to live and work, being a vibrant and diverse city located close to the South Downs and is easily accessible from London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate technical drawings, plans, and specifications using CAD and BIM software (Revit)
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop practical design solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Prepare and coordinate tender and construction documents.
  • Assist in project administration, including material specifications and technical reports.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and quality.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and drawing registers.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Architectural Technology.
  • Membership of CIAT - preferred but not essential.
  • Minimum 3 years previous UK experience working within an architectural practice or construction environment as an Architectural Technician/Technologist.
  • Highly proficient in Revit and Auto CAD.
  • Knowledge of Sketchup and Navisworks (Clash Detection) – desirable but not essential.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of different building systems, for example traditional, steel frame, timber frame, concrete frame, light weight frames, modular.
  • Thorough knowledge of UK building regulations, construction methods, and materials.
  • Awareness of other useful sources of information such as Robust Details, NHBC, LABC, BB93, HTMs etc.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills and an ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of products and manufacturers and an ability to propose product specifications to Project Architect based on technical requirements
  • Knowledge of NBS CAWS and Uniclass and specification writing.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and modern building technologies.
  • Experience liaising with planning authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • A driving license is desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
