We are looking for a skilled and passionate Cook to join our culinary team. As a Cook in our partnered facilities, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met with delicious and wholesome meals. You will work collaboratively with the facility's dietary team to plan menus, prepare meals, and maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. Experience working in a long-term care facility is mandatory.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious meals in accordance with dietary requirements and menu plans ensuring all standards are met.
  • Ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperature and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the serving of meals to residents ensuring resident food preferences are respected.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper storage and handling of food.
  • Collaborate with dietary staff to develop menus that meet the nutritional needs and preferences of residents.
  • Assist the Food and Nutrition Manager in control of food costs, waste, and ordering.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate to the appropriate channels to coordinate ordering of supplies.
  • Ensure all Public Health and Ministry of Long-Term Care requirements are met.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
  • Assist with special events and catering as required.
Requirements
  • Successful completion and/or enrollment in a Food Service Worker Program meeting the requirements of the Ontario Long-Term Care Homes Act required.
  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal.
  • Must have a Food Handler's Certificate and keep it up to date.
  • Experience in a Long-Term Care setting or with seniors is preferred, but institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience accepted.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care's Long-term care home COVID-19 immunization policy.
Skills
  • Must have a sincere interest in people, the elderly in particular, and possess a genuine sensitivity to their needs.
  • Must be able to effectively handle the physical aspects of the position including, but not limited to the ability to bend, stand, lift, withstand various ranges of temperatures, and have hands in water while working safely by following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Able to multi-task and complete required routines within assigned schedules.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written in English).
