We're working on behalf of an established, privately owned international commodities trading business to find their next Head of IT, based in London. This is a hands-on regional leadership role. You'll own the IT function for the London office and provide oversight across a small number of other international offices, working closely with trading, chartering, treasury and finance to keep the business running securely and reliably.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Leading IT infrastructure, network and security across the region, keeping systems reliable and available around the clock.
- Owning governance of the trading, voyage management and finance systems the business runs on, and acting as the senior point of contact when things need fixing or improving.
- Managing vendor relationships and holding suppliers to account on delivery and service.
- Running IT upgrade and transformation projects with minimal disruption to the business.
- Building and developing a small regional IT team, while staying hands-on enough to unblock technical problems yourself.
- Partnering with global IT leadership on wider strategy, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Significant experience (8+ years) in IT infrastructure or systems leadership, ideally including time in commodity trading, energy or shipping.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of enterprise IT environments: Microsoft technologies, cloud infrastructure and networking.
- Working familiarity with trading and risk management systems, voyage or vessel management systems, and ERP platforms. You don't need to code, but you should be able to read a data model, challenge a vendor proposal and direct a technical team with confidence.
- Some understanding of physical trading and logistics, enough to hold your own with trading, chartering and finance colleagues.
- Experience managing distributed teams across time zones.
- A degree in IT or a related field, plus relevant professional certifications.
WHAT YOU'RE LIKE
- Comfortable operating at both a hands-on technical level and a senior stakeholder level.
- Happy to take ownership and work independently.
- Flexible with hours when the business needs it.
- A strong communicator who works well across geographies and seniority levels.

✨Brush Up on Your Technical Skills
For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.
✨Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach
IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
