Artisan Bakery in Stroud, Gloucestershire is recruiting an experienced Head Baker, offering a salary of up to £42,000 and a stable 5-day working week.
This is a senior, hands-on Head Baker role, leading a large production team while remaining actively involved in sourdough bread and pastry production.
The Role
Reporting into the Head of Production, you'll oversee day-to-day bakery production while leading a team of approximately 20 bakers and kitchen staff. This is a production-led, hands-on position in a busy artisan bakery specialising in sourdough breads and pastries. You'll be visible on the bakery floor, setting standards, supporting and mentoring the team, and ensuring consistent quality across all output.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily production of sourdough breads and pastries
- Maintain high standards of quality and consistency
- Support production planning, workflow and scheduling
- Manage, motivate, train and develop a large bakery team
- Handle people management issues professionally and constructively
- Ensure food safety, hygiene and compliance standards are met
- Support continuous improvement across production and team processes
The Person
This role will suit a Head Baker, Senior Baker or Lead Baker who enjoys leading people while staying close to the craft. You will have:
- Strong, hands-on baking experience within an artisan or sourdough bakery
- Excellent technical knowledge of bread and pastry production
- Experience supervising or managing teams in a production environment
- Confidence in dealing with people management and performance
- A calm, organised approach in a fast-paced setting
Working Pattern
5 days per week, generally 9 am - 5 pm with occasional earlier or later shifts when needed. Some weekend work required.
