Job Description
Do you have what it takes to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people? An opportunity has arisen to recruit Residential Child Care Practitioners (RCCP) to a newly developed home in Treorchy. As an RCCP, you will be part of a caring team that provides a safe, nurturing home for up to five children and young people, led and supported by a Registered Manager and experienced Senior staff.
Successful applicants will be committed to improving the lives of children with complex needs and those who have experienced childhood trauma. You will support individuals to work through their experiences, with the goal of aiding recovery and building resilience, to achieve their personal goals. This will involve providing emotional and physical support to enable children and young people to reach their full potential, sometimes in challenging situations. You will work actively with families and professionals to ensure care and support is personalised to meet individual needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care and support for up to five children and young people in a residential setting.
- Engage with children and young people, fostering emotional and physical wellbeing.
- Work creatively with a high level of active engagement in activities and direct work.
- Support individuals to work through their experiences within a therapeutic environment, utilising the Trauma Recovery Model of Care.
- Collaborate with families and professionals to personalise care and support.
- Adapt and respond to challenging situations with empathy and resilience.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with council policies.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that promotes learning and growth.
- Work flexibly – day afternoon, occasional nights, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑in duties.

- Hold or be prepared to work towards the QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) or predecessor NVQ Level 3 (Children and Young People).
- Registered with Social Care Wales, either on appointment or following completion of the Induction Framework.
