An interesting and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Registration Service as the Senior Registrar and Compliance Officer. The successful candidate will support the Superintendent Registrar in the effective management of the Registration Service in the delivery of its statutory functions in accordance with Regulation and under the general direction of the Registrar General. The Registration Service is responsible for the statutory registration of life events, such as births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships; as well as associated roles, such as conducting Citizenship ceremonies and assisting with Family History bookings. The Service deals with customers at life-defining and emotional moments in their lives, so being able to both personally provide this service, and ensure the staff provide this service in a professional, yet sensitive manner is essential.
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake training and/or maintain competence in the range of duties and responsibilities associated with the post.
Responsibilities- Support the Superintendent Registrar in the management of the Registration Service and its statutory functions.
- Oversee and participate in the statutory registration of life events (births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships).
- Contribute to associated roles such as conducting Citizenship ceremonies and assisting with Family History bookings.
- Ensure service delivery is professional, sensitive and customer-focused, particularly at life-defining moments.
- Undertake training and maintain competence across the duties and responsibilities of the post.
- Drive service modernisation and continuous improvement in line with local authority objectives.
- Work as part of a team and on own initiative as required.
- Participate in out of hours and weekend rota arrangements as required by the Service.
- Take advantage of flexible working arrangements within Service demands where possible.
- Engage in safeguarding responsibilities as required by the Council.
- Enthusiastic with a high degree of self-motivation, commitment and attention to detail.
- Strong communication, sensitivity, ICT and numeracy skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
- Commitment to modernisation of services and continuous improvement.
- Experience or readiness to train in the duties and responsibilities of the post.
- Enhanced disclosure and barring service check is required due to safeguarding responsibilities.
