An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Commercial team as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor based at our Reading Office; this role will include periodic travel to other Rhodar offices with overnight stays. Salary: £35,000 - 45,000 (dependent on experience) + company car.
About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who will provide commercial assistance to the project teams. You will have 2-4 years’ post graduate experience in Quantity Surveying. The role will be based in Aldermaston, Reading. The role will provide commercial support to Contracts Managers, Project Director, Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager, to ensure that all commercial and contractual aspects of the projects under their remit are properly managed and controlled in an efficient manner, ensuring the maximum financial return and profit for the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend site regularly to provide commercial support.
- Attend site visits and meetings when required.
- Contribute towards effective interaction between the commercial team and the site teams.
- Build and maintain good client relationships.
- Identify any changes to the original scope of works in order to ensure variations are captured and accordingly claimed for.
- Value completed work and submit interim Applications for Payment to the client that accurately reflect this, adhering to timescales specified in the contract.
- Place subcontract orders, along with valuing subcontractor applications and payments.
- Preparation of monthly forecasts / CVRs for review and approval by Commercial Manager.
- Prepare and analyse project costs and recalculate these during a project if the scope changes.
- Assist with and ensure accurate cash flow reporting.
- Ensure that any supply chains or subcontractors used are engaged appropriately within the business and signed off by Procurement / Compliance.
- Support the monthly WIP process and other reports, including debt.
- Maintain awareness of the different building contracts that are in use.

- You will have a bespoke induction / onboarding process, tailored to Quantity Surveying.
- 4-6 weeks shadowing an experienced Quantity Surveyor within our Leeds office to learn the business processes/procedures before working on site in Reading full time.
- Formal training tailored to the Quantity Surveying professional, thus ensuring continued exposure and gradual career progression.
- Mentoring from MRICS qualified surveyors.
- Supporting employees through the APC journey (including financial support).
- Clear and tracked training program to enable elevation within the business.
About you
- You must hold a full driving licence.
- 2-4 years’ post graduate experience in an Assistant QS role or QS role.
- Degree in Quantity Surveying from a RICS accredited provider.
- Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, Project and Outlook.
- The ability to manage your own workload and coordinate with others to ensure strict deadlines are met.
- The willingness to undertake additional training to grow within the role.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational skills in being able to multi-task and re-prioritise at frequent intervals.
- Friendly and professional manner.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to change and work effectively as part of a team.
- Knowledge of CEMAR is desirable but not critical.
