We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to produce accurate, competitive tenders and budgets for ventilation and associated mechanical systems on data centre and commercial property projects. The role involves detailed take-offs from drawings, obtaining and analysing supplier/subcontractor quotations, and working closely with design, project management, and commercial teams. You will help ensure our bids are technically robust, commercially competitive, and aligned with client specifications and industry standards.
Responsibilities:
- Complete material and labour take-offs for ductwork, air handling units, fans, dampers, grilles, supports, and associated equipment.
- Develop cost build-ups, including preliminaries, plant, labour, and subcontractor elements.
- Obtain, evaluate, and negotiate quotations from suppliers and specialist subcontractors.
- Identify value engineering options while maintaining performance, resilience, and compliance requirements.
- Clarify scope, exclusions, and assumptions in proposals and tender submissions.
- Attend pre- and post-tender meetings, providing technical and commercial input.
- Liaise with design/engineering teams to resolve queries and align estimates with design intent.
- Support handover to project delivery teams, including cost breakdowns and risk registers.
- Maintain and update unit rates, cost databases, and benchmarking information.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in the Ventilation / HVAC Industry as a mechanical or HVAC Estimator.
- Proficiency with Office 365 products.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and commercial skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Accuracy of estimates vs. actual project costs.
- Bid success/hit rate on targeted opportunities.
- Timely submission of tenders and budgets.
- Quality and clarity of proposals and handover documentation.
