Mechanical Technician (Fuel Storage Facility) Starting salary: £36,000 rising after 6 months Excellent company Pension Generous Leave. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Technician to join a safety-critical fuel storage and distribution facility in the Dunoon area (Argyll & Bute). Working as part of a small on-site maintenance team, you will help ensure all mechanical assets are maintained to a high standard, with a strong focus on safety, environmental protection, and operational reliability. This is a predominantly outdoor, hands-on role involving manual handling, with occasional work in confined spaces. There may also be a requirement to travel to other sites and/or attend training, so a full UK driving licence (preferably clean) is essential. Our cleint is looking for a motivated team player who can join a rostered on-call rota and support short-notice overtime when required. You'll demonstrate strong health & safety fundamentals, a good safety record, and high standards of honesty and confidentiality. Key responsibilities Carry out planned maintenance and defect rectification efficiently and safely. Report site defects promptly to the engineering lead for action and follow-up. Complete weekly/monthly PPM documentation within agreed timescales. Prepare work areas for more complex maintenance of site systems and components. Use diagnostic techniques to identify faults in mechanical systems and equipment. Interpret technical drawings (including P&IDs, isometrics, and general arrangements). Work within Safe Systems of Work, including RAMS and Permit to Work (PTW); you will be expected to review work activities and produce/maintain RAMS to ensure tasks are completed safely. Candidate requirements Completed a recognised Mechanical Craft Apprenticeship or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations; NVQ Level 2 Forming & Assembling Pipework Systems; Level 3 BTEC Mechanical Maintenance; NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance). Strong working knowledge of rotating and static plant, such as tanks, pumps, valves, pipework, oil separators, compressors, actuators, and associated piping systems. Medically fit for confined space work and use of Breathing Apparatus (BA) where required. Computer literate with accurate record-keeping skills (paperwork and system updates).
