Location: London - 5 days a week 40 hours per week (hybrid 3 days in the office min)

Contract: Freelance / Contract / 6 Months + £315 per day Limited company

We are working with a leading product innovation consultancy seeking an experienced Senior Consultant for Mechanical Engineering Design, to deliver complex engineering projects from concept through to production in the Medical and consumer product world. This role suits a technically strong, commercially aware engineer with experience leading projects, solving complex design challenges, and managing client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead client communication and project delivery
  • Interpret briefs, define requirements, and manage plans, budgets, and timelines
  • Develop innovative engineering concepts and assess feasibility
  • Deliver robust designs using 3D CAD, FEA/CFD, mathematical modelling, and prototype testing
  • Support system-level engineering across structures, mechanisms, thermo-fluids, and manufacturing
  • Produce manufacturing specifications, engineering drawings, and tolerance analysis
  • Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards

About You

Essential

  • Master's degree (1st or 2:1) in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Strong SolidWorks 3D CAD skills
  • Experience with FEA/CFD simulation and tolerance calculations
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, moulding, fabrication, casting, and assembly
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • 5+ years' engineering project experience, ideally within consultancy

Desirable

  • Structural analysis, mechanisms, and fluid systems experience
  • Electronics/firmware integration exposure
  • Arduino and/or Python knowledge
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, and assembly skills
