Our client has a unique opportunity for an experienced design build Technical Manager. The role includes primary responsibility for design management and co-ordination of all technical aspects of projects from planning approval through to project completion.

Reporting to the Technical Director, you will manage and lead the design on multiple schemes. The role will include reviewing design compliance, design efficiency, build-ability and developing value engineering opportunities with the commercial and operation teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and managing high risk building designs for gateway 2 submission/approval in preparation for commencement on site to achieve the best possible standard delivered through an efficient compliant design.
  • Agreeing with the Technical Director and department heads initial design deliverables and design programme, liaise with commercial department to correlate procurement deadlines with design deliverables.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the building design are fully coordinated, including but not restricted to, structures, faΓ§ade, MEP, internal specification, Utilities co-ordination and service/maintenance strategies.
  • Develop project specific Design Programmes which form part of the broader Master Development Programme, manage the design deliverables in line with design/procurement program.
  • Managing external design consultants and specialist subcontractors with Design Responsibilities, ensuring delivery against the brief within set timescales and budget.
  • Reviewing consultant and specialist designs to include the viability of off-site production and alternative methods of construction.
  • Assisting with the appointment of external consultants and manage their performance.
  • Leading on the production and management of scopes of works, appointment documents, technical programmes, collateral warranties, references and fee proposals.
  • Assist with developing project specific contractors' proposals.
  • Chair Design Team meetings and workshops to ensure consultant designs are fully co-ordinated and deliver efficient solutions across the board.
  • Manage the transition of planning approved schemes into efficient and workable commercial solutions.
  • Leading the optimisation process, focusing on delivering design excellence across the scheme.
  • Develop the technical specifications in line with contractors' proposals.
  • Co-ordinate and manage the submission of all statutory enquiries, crossovers, sewer connections etc., in a timely manner from initial application to obtaining technical approval.
  • Co-ordinate and manage information required to discharge planning conditions, liaise with design team to collate submission packs.
  • Co-ordinate and manage information required to discharge building regulation and warranty provider conditions.
  • Co-ordinate and manage any party wall project specific agreements.
  • Co-ordinate technical Submittal approvals required to facilitate the project programme.
  • Co-ordinate and manage design requirements for specialist subcontractors with Design Responsibility.
  • Manage the Design Development process during the Procurement stage to ensure the timely production of coordinated Design Team information.
  • Innovation is key to a fast-moving industry, a keen eye for new innovative approaches during the design and planning stages is required.
  • Adopting a 'best value' approach, which seeks to minimise costs and maximise value.

About you:

  • Degree/Higher Diploma qualification in Architecture/Engineering or equivalent, minimum 5 years post qualification experience.
  • High rise experience in the design and detailing of residential schemes, previous developer or design build main contractor experience required.
  • A strong knowledge and understanding of the latest building regulations and standards.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and deliver demanding design programs.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • To be willing to accept responsibility for completing designated tasks.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels in a team environment.
  • Careful attention to detail and accuracy of designs are essential.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and make decisions as required in a timely manner.
  • Manage and co-ordinate a number of different projects at the same time.
