- Main Purpose of the Role
The Warehouse Team Leader is responsible for leading the day-to-day warehouse operation, ensuring materials, finished goods and inventory are managed safely, accurately and efficiently to support production and customer requirements.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong organisational skills, excellent communication and the ability to motivate a team whilst maintaining high standards of safety, quality, productivity and stock accuracy.
The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Planning, Purchasing, Customer Service and other departments to ensure the smooth flow of materials throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of warehouse operatives.
- Allocate labour and resources effectively to meet changing business priorities.
- Conduct daily team briefings and communicate business objectives.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality and performance.
- Support recruitment, induction and training.
- Carry out probation reviews, return-to-work interviews and performance discussions.
- Promote a positive team culture built on accountability and continuous improvement.
- Warehouse Operations
- Ensure goods are received, checked and booked into stock accurately.
- Ensure production materials are available to prevent line stoppages.
- Oversee accurate picking, packing and despatch.
- Ensure ERP inventory transactions are completed correctly.
- Monitor Goods In, Stores, Line Feeding, Returns and Despatch workloads.
- Support cycle counts and annual stock takes.
- Ensure equipment defects are reported.
- Report and investigate accidents and near misses.
- Inventory Control
- Drive stock accuracy.
- Investigate inventory variances.
- Ensure stock movements are completed accurately in real time.
- Support inventory audits.
- Production Support
- Work proactively with Production Team Leaders.
- Ensure material availability supports production schedules.
- Escalate shortages before they impact production. Monitor warehouse KPIs and implement action plans.
- Encourage improvement ideas from the team.
- Communication
- Build strong cross-functional relationships.
- Provide clear operational updates.
- Maintain accurate warehouse records.
- General Responsibilities
- Open and secure the building when required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties.
- Represent the company professionally.
Person Specification
- Previous warehouse supervisory or team leader experience.
- Experience within a fast‑paced manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent organisational, planning and communication skills.
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
- Understanding of inventory control and warehouse best practice.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety within a warehouse environment.
- Experience using ERP/WMS systems.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Knowledge of 5S.
