Who You Are: You are a scientifically trained professional with strong hands-on experience supporting advanced research technologies. You excel at installing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex scientific instruments in customer environments. You translate scientific needs into practical technical solutions, ensuring systems integrate smoothly into real-world workflows. You communicate clearly, solve problems proactively, and build strong relationships with users, making you a trusted partner in helping customers get the most out of their tools.
The Position: This dual-function role combines Scientific Application Support and Technical Service & Engineering. The Field Application Scientist provides on-site and remote support, delivers training, resolves complex issues, and collaborates with R&D, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure customer success. You bridge the gap between scientific research needs and instrument performance, ensuring systems are fully optimized within each customer’s unique environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, physics, or related field) or equivalent industry experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with scientific instruments or analytical technologies.
- 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role such as field service, technical support, or scientific applications.
- Based in the UK with ability to travel 50–60% across the UK and broader EMEA region.
- Demonstrated ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot scientific instruments.
- Strong understanding of scientific workflows and ability to translate complex concepts into practical applications.
- Excellent verbal communication skills for training, demonstrations, and customer interactions.
- Proven ability to work independently in customer environments with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline.
- Prior experience as a Field Application Scientist, Field Service Engineer, or hybrid role.
- Background in viscometry, rheometry, fluid dynamics, or related instrumentation.
- Experience supporting customers across multiple EMEA countries.
- Familiarity with regulatory, safety, or quality standards relevant to laboratory or industrial environments.
- Experience with CRM or service management platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, ServiceMax).
- Demonstrated success delivering customer training, workshops, or scientific presentations.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (R&D, engineering, sales, product management).
- Multilingual capabilities (e.g., German, French, Spanish, Italian) beneficial for EMEA support.
- Strong project management skills and experience coordinating installations or multi-site deployments.
- Ability to analyze customer feedback and contribute to product improvement discussions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move materials up to 25–50 lbs as needed.
- Ability to stand, walk, or move between work areas within the production and manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use standard material-handling tools or equipment (training provided if needed).
- Ability to work in a production/manufacturing area on a regular basis.
Job Responsibilities And Expectations:
- Scientific Applications Support: Provide training, demonstrations, and consultation on scientific workflows. Translate complex scientific concepts into practical applications using company products. Act as a trusted advisor to researchers and technical staff.
- Technical Service & Engineering: Install, configure, and maintain instruments and systems at client sites. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to minimize downtime. Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards during service activities.
- Customer Success & Solutions: Serve as the primary technical/scientific liaison between customers and internal teams. Collect customer feedback and relay insights to product development and R&D. Support sales and business development teams with technical expertise.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including tasks that may fall outside the traditional scope of this classification as business needs evolve.
