About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Buyer to work within our procurement team to ensure the delivery, sourcing and procurement of specialised technical components, raw materials and sub‑assemblies within the electronics manufacturing sector.
Working alongside our Engineering, Quality and Project Management teams, the role ensures that all purchased goods meet stringent quality, regulatory and engineering specifications while maintaining cost‑efficiency and supply continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret technical drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to source correct components; support the NPI and prototype developments.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers based on their technical capability, quality certifications and reliability.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure supplier adherence to business and industry standards.
- Manage supplier relationships with a focus on traceability, material certification, and conformity.
- Support engineering change control and ensure procurement actions align with business requirements.
- Source and procure approved materials, precision components, machined parts, composites and specialist services.
- Monitor supplier performance using metrics such as OTIF, concession rates, and audit outcomes.
- Ensure that robust contracts are in place so suppliers are accountable for their performance.
- Deliver cost savings and value engineering contributions.
- Improve compliance metrics – reduction of non‑conformances, improved traceability.
- Approve, onboard and manage supplier‑to‑supplier changes to reduce supply and quality risk.
- What Qualifications You Should Have
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing process documentation.
- Familiarity with regulatory and certification requirements.
- Proven procurement experience within the electronics manufacturing sector or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience using ERP/purchasing systems in a fast‑paced technical environment.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Power Point) to produce reports and analyse data.
- Experience working with PCBs, CNC, sheet metal and (preferred) cameras and sensors.
- Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Electronics, Supply Chain, or a related discipline (preferred).
- CIPS qualification or progression towards CIPS (beneficial).
