The FPGA Engineer is responsible for all aspects of FPGA development by REUK to support the design and manufacture of the full range of products developed and supplied by REUK. Working closely with the FPGA Engineering Manager, other members of the FPGA and wider Engineering Team, the FPGA Engineer is responsible for maintaining, updating and developing FPGA solutions in a variety of REUK products and IP Cores. This is a vital role in the innovation, development, maintenance, and enhancement of the FPGA code foundational to the REUK product offering. It ensures continuous product evolution in alignment with established product roadmaps and the overarching engineering strategy, as well as enabling new product developments and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test and deploy new FPGA and SoC hardware for REUK products, ensuring adherence to internal processes, quality, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with product and development teams to deliver innovative solutions that address complex requirements, maximise value, and adhere to development timelines.
  • Create clear and comprehensive design documentation for all FPGA architectures and code, and actively contribute to product technical documentation, product roadmaps, and FPGA code frameworks.
  • Collaborate closely with System and SoC architects, as well as the FPGA and other development teams.

Main Tasks

  • Design, implementation and verification of FPGA and SoC based solutions.
  • VHDL code development and simulation.
  • Implement and verify complete FPGA solutions, modules, interfaces and IP Cores for video and RF signal processing applications.
  • Perform bench and low-level integration of FPGA solutions to meet system requirements.
  • Generate supporting documentation including design documents, test/verification plans and reports.
  • Responsible for the design of System-on-Chip functional architectures.
  • Work with the Electronic design team to support and advise on device and COTS card design and selection for FPGA and SoC based PCB solutions.
  • Perform latency and power analysis for FGPA and SoC based solutions.
  • Responsible for the design of test frameworks and test stimuli.
  • Break down complex requirements, capturing scope, generating estimates and identifying dependencies.

What Qualifications You Should Have

Essential Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
  • At least 5 years of experience in FPGA and digital design.
  • Significant, demonstratable experience in complex FPGA design and verification using VHDL and/or Verilog.
  • Understanding of the entire FPGA development flow and associated tools (e.g. Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim/QuestaSim).
  • Experience with high-speed digital design, timing closure, and signal integrity challenges.
  • Strong ability to write structured code and clear documentation.
  • Knowledge of TCL scripting language.
  • Experience with System-on-Chip (SoC) devices (e.g. Zynq UltraScale+) and embedded processing cores.

Highly Desirable

  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Tcl).
  • Familiarity with Video protocol and data format, such as MIPI and SDI.
  • Experience or knowledge of circuit design and schematic capture.
  • Proficiency in modelling packages, such as Matlab.
  • Knowledge of software development languages such as C++.
  • Experience with High Level Synthesis.
  • Experience of designing to safety integrity levels.
  • Experience of development within the lifecycle defined in Functional Safety Standards IEC 61508 or ISO 26262.
  • Knowledge of GPU and AI development.
  • Experience working within the defence, aerospace, or other high-reliability sectors.
  • Current UK Security Clearance (SC or DV).
