  • Monday to Thursday: 07:00 – 15:30
  • Friday: 07:00 – 13:00

Role of a CNC Miller Setter Operator Programmer:

A well-established precision engineering company is seeking an experienced CNC Milling Programmer / Setter / Operator to join its machining team on a permanent day shift basis. This role is ideally suited to a skilled CNC machinist with experience programming, setting, and operating CNC vertical milling machines using Heidenhain controls. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-precision components to exacting quality standards, including machining a range of specialist and difficult-to-machine materials.

Key Responsibilities of a CNC Miller Setter Operator Programmer:

  • Program CNC milling jobs directly at the machine using Heidenhain controls
  • Set and operate CNC vertical milling machines
  • Load, prove, edit, and optimise CNC programs
  • Accurately set up fixtures, vices, workholding equipment, and tooling
  • Install and adjust cutting tools to suit production requirements
  • Carry out tool offsets and minor program edits where necessary
  • Machine components from a range of materials including stainless steels and specialist alloys
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Select appropriate tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies
  • Carry out first-off and in-process inspection using measuring equipment including micrometers, verniers, and gauges
  • Maintain tight tolerances and high surface finish standards
  • Identify and resolve machining, tooling, and process issues
  • Ensure all components meet required quality standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment
  • Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to achieve operational targets
  • Follow all company health, safety, and quality procedures

Skills & Experience Required of CNC Miller Setter Operator Programmer:

  • Proven experience as a CNC Milling Programmer / Setter / Operator or Milling Setter / Operator
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining principles and tooling
  • Strong working knowledge of Heidenhain CNC control systems
  • Experience operating CNC vertical milling machines
  • Ability to confidently interpret engineering drawings
  • Competent in the use of precision measuring instruments
  • Experience setting fixtures, tooling, and work offsets
  • Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently or within a team

Desirable Experience of a CNC Miller Setter Operator Programmer:

  • Experience machining exotic or difficult-to-machine materials
  • Experience within precision engineering or high-integrity industries such as aerospace, oil & gas, medical, or motorsport
  • Experience in one-off, prototype, or small batch production
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques
