An established and growing engineering company is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to support across the region. This is a field-based role involving travel directly from home to customer sites.

The Role of a Field Service Engineer

You will be responsible for servicing, repairing, and responding to breakdowns on precision machinery at customer premises. The position is hands-on and customer-facing, requiring both technical expertise and strong problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities of a Field Service Engineer

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on precision machinery at customer sites
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults efficiently
  • Respond to breakdown call-outs and minimise customer downtime
  • Provide excellent on-site customer support and maintain strong working relationships
  • Complete service reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure all work is carried out in line with health & safety standards
  • Manage and maintain company-issued tools, vehicle, and equipment

Candidate Requirements of a Field Service Engineer

  • Proven experience in a field service, maintenance, or mechanical engineering role
  • Strong fault-finding skills across mechanical systems (electrical knowledge advantageous)
  • Working with industrial machinery
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally stay overnight when required
  • Experience working with cutting machinery such as bandsaws or circular saws
  • Basic electrical fault-finding and repair knowledge
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (e.g. NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing field-based role

Working Conditions & Package

  • Field-based role with travel typically within a two-hour radius of home
  • Travel time included within working hours
  • Monday to Friday working pattern with flexible start/finish times
  • Occasional overnight stays (expenses fully covered)
  • Company van (with personal use), mobile phone, and standard equipment provided
