The School of Health is a vibrant academic community and the main provider of both undergraduate and postgraduate nursing, midwifery and AHP's in the North of Scotland. As a Lecturer in Midwifery, you will join a motivated team of academics, providing support for teaching and learning across the School. With knowledge, experience, and skills as well as a degree in midwifery, you will be expected to contribute to the School's undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery portfolio. Opportunities to contribute to teaching and assessment on related courses both within the School of Health and the wider University reflect the inter-professional approach which is required of the successful candidate.
You will be a committed and motivated professional, you should have excellent communication and teaching skills and be able to motivate and inspire students. We welcome applicants from the broad range of contemporary midwifery experience and settings. This breadth of experience will enable you to contribute effectively to teaching, assessment, curriculum development and the preparation of future midwives for practice within diverse healthcare environments.
All our education is evidence based and we encourage curiosity and innovation in our staff to enhance our academic portfolio. You will be supported to identify and actively engage in scholarship and research activities. Development of a personal research profile and contribution to applied health research or educational research is an expectation of all academic staff. Additionally, you may also be involved in the School's commercialisation activities.
This is a full time role however part time or job-share may be considered.
Grade 7 Salary Scale: £39,906 - 46,049
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £47,389 - 56,535
Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience. Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or expertise which are required for the position.
In keeping with RGU's commitment to work/life balance you will have the opportunity to work from home for a portion of the working week, but you must be in a position to deliver teaching on campus to meet the requirements of the course.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal Lecturer
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No line management responsibility
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Participate in the development and preparation of teaching.
- Provide tutorial and personal guidance for students.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Develop and maintain expertise in subject.
- Participate in subject, course and module development.
- Undertake appropriate administrative responsibilities.
- Participate in curriculum development and in particular contributes to the introduction of new methods of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Establish and maintain relevant professional and industrial links, as necessary, for the effective operation of the School's course.
- Promote and market the School and its courses to local, national and international audiences.
- Maintain working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.
- Represent the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.
- Other activities as deemed appropriate by the Associate Dean or the Dean of School.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships: Degree in a relevant subject area. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Knowledge: Knowledge and awareness of current policy and priorities relevant to professional practice. Knowledge of relevant NMC Standards for education and training.
Experience: Recent relevant clinical and/or educational experience.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships: PhD or Higher Degree e.g. Masters in relevant discipline. PGCert in Teaching and Learning or equivalent / willing to work towards achieving this.
Experience: Evidence of contribution to Professional Body Activity e.g. locally or nationally. Evidence of teaching and learning/practice education in midwifery.

- Analysis and Research: Experience of identifying or designing data gathering and analytical methods appropriate for each investigation, and producing reports that identify key issues and findings.
