As an Assistant Project Officer within our Academic Quality and Learning Enhancement Department, this fixed term contract post will support the University's preparations for its Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER) which will take place in 2027. The TQER is a major review of the University's quality and standards, and of the quality of the student experience, and is conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA), on behalf of the Scottish Funding Council.

Key aspects of this role will be to support the TQER Steering Group, including the Lead Quality Representative and Lead Student Representative, in their preparations for the review; helping to prepare the Advance Information Set; contribute to the writing of the Strategic Impact Analysis; and identifying key themes for discussion with the review team.

In order to fulfil this interesting and challenging role, you will need to be educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant work experience. You will be experienced in working with quality assurance processes, and have attention to detail. Experience of working in a higher education environment would be an advantage.

This is a fixed term post for one year. RESPONSIBLE TO: Academic Quality Lead

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility

PURPOSE OF POST: Support the University preparations for its forthcoming Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER).

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Play a key role in the preparations for the Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review which will include:
  • Compiling all the documentation to be submitted as part of the Advance Information Set;
  • Contributing to the drafting of the institutional Strategic Impact Analysis (SIA);
  • Overseeing logistical aspects of the TQER Panel visits;
  • Coordinating attendees to meet with the TQER Panel;
  • Following up on key issues identified through the writing of the SIA and advising on how to progress with the key recommendations arising from the review.
  • Provide administrative, operational and logistical support to the TQER Steering Group, including close liaison with the Lead Student Representative, sharing relevant information and data to ensure that the student contribution to the AIS is well-informed and evidence-based.
  • Support the University's overall activities in relation to the new Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework, the Scottish Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP), and the Self Evaluation Action Plan.
  • Provide clerical support for monthly TQER Steering Group meetings, including preparation of agenda, papers and notes of meetings, and generation of internal Monthly Bulletins.
  • ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Qualifications and Professional Memberships: Educated to postgraduate degree level, or equivalent relevant work experience.

    Knowledge: Quality assurance and enhancement processes within the Scottish tertiary education sector. Understanding of effective document control.

    Experience: Prior experience of writing accurate and succinct summaries and reports. Experience of working with quality assurance and enhancement processes in a tertiary education setting. Confident use of M365 applications.

    DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

    Knowledge: Awareness of the Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework (TQEF) and Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER), the Scottish Funding Council's Guidance on Quality, Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) policies, procedures and guidance, and guidance from sparqs. Knowledge of the role of students in the TQEF and TQER.

    Experience: Participation or support for an external review.
