Service Engineer – Electrical

A specialist engineering firm is seeking a skilled and flexible Service Engineer to support the commissioning, servicing, and fault resolution of high-performance electrical equipment used in power testing applications. This is a hands-on role with regular travel across the UK and Europe, supporting industries such as data centres, utilities, marine, and energy.

About the Role:

You\’ll be working on Electrical test equipment designed to simulate electrical loads for testing generators, UPS systems, and other critical infrastructure. These systems range from compact resistive units to large containerised reactive setups, often deployed in high-stakes environments where reliability is non-negotiable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service, repair, and commission load bank systems on customer sites and in-house

  • Perform electrical testing, resistance/insulation checks, and live load testing

  • Document findings and produce detailed client reports

  • Provide remote technical support for urgent breakdowns

  • Assist with product development and warranty investigations

  • Occasional soldering, PCB programming, and urgent parts assembly

Travel & Flexibility:

  • UK-based with regular short trips into Europe (2–3 per month, typically 3 days)

  • Occasional longer projects (up to 10 days)

  • Weekend work may be required

  • All travel time paid hourly; nights away paid at 12 hours minimum

Package:

  • Hourly rate: £18–£20/hr

  • Weekday overtime: Time x1.5 after 8 hours, Time x2 after 14 hours

  • Saturday: Time x1.5 | Sunday: Time x2

  • 25 days annual leave

  • Company credit card, mobile phone, laptop, and iPad provided

Preferred Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation/Maintenance

  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671)

  • ECS card

  • Electrical Test & Inspect

  • IOSH or similar safety training
