We are actively recruiting for an HSE Manager to take ownership of health, safety and environmental compliance across a large-scale facilities management, defence contract for a Tier 1 FM contractor operating across Berkshire and the wider South East region.

As an HSE Manager you will be the lead HSE professional on a major FM Defence contract, working closely with operational and contract management teams to drive a positive safety culture, ensure legislative compliance and manage all aspects of health, safety and environmental performance across a diverse, multi-site portfolio.

Due to the nature of the Defence contract/environment, you will be required to undertake SC and DV security clearance. Ideally candidates will already hold these qualifications.

Employment Package/Summary:

  • Status: Permanent, PAYE – Paid Monthly
  • Base Salary: £75,000
  • Car Allowance: £5,250
  • Provided: Phone, laptop, 34 days paid annual leave
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00am – 5:00pm
  • Location/s: Berkshire based with travel across South East England

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all health, safety and environmental activities across the FM contract portfolio.
  • Develop, implement and maintain HSE policies, procedures and management systems in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work across all operational activities.
  • Carry out regular site audits, inspections and compliance checks, producing detailed reports with corrective action plans.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and accidents, producing thorough root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all HSE matters with the client, subcontractors and regulatory bodies.
  • Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes to operational and management teams.
  • Monitor and report on HSE KPIs, producing monthly performance reports for senior management and the client.
  • Manage CDM compliance on minor works and projects undertaken within the FM contract.
  • Keep abreast of changes to HSE legislation and ensure business-wide compliance at all times.

Requirements:

  • Ideally candidate will hold current SC / DV Security Clearance. At minimum, must be willing to undertake DV Security Clearance.
  • Experience working in Defence / MOD based environments is highly preferable.
  • Must hold NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent (NEBOSH Certificate considered with significant relevant experience).
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards chartership preferred.
  • Must hold proven experience in a senior HSE role within a facilities management, building services or construction environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations, COSHH, LOLER, PUWER and associated legislation.
  • Experience managing HSE across multi-site, fast-paced FM or maintenance contracts essential.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
