An established and growing specialist advisory firm is looking to appoint an R&D Tax Consultant to support the continued delivery of high-quality R&D tax claims across a varied client base. The successful candidate will work closely with Tax Managers and senior colleagues, supporting the full lifecycle of R&D claims from initial information gathering through to technical report preparation, costing, submission support and ongoing client care. The role would suit someone detail-focused, commercially aware and confident speaking with clients, finance teams and technical stakeholders. You will play an important part in ensuring claims are accurate, well-evidenced and aligned with current HMRC expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of end-to-end R&D tax claims, including scoping, eligibility assessment, technical interviews, costing, documentation and submission preparation
- Prepare and contribute to clear, robust technical narratives that accurately capture qualifying R&D activity
- Assist with cost analysis, evidence gathering and claim calculations in line with current guidance and best practice
- Work directly with clients to understand their projects, technical challenges, expenditure and supporting documentation
- Liaise with finance, technical and operational stakeholders to gather the information required for compliant claims
- Support Tax Managers with client portfolio management, deadlines, reporting and claim progression
- Help ensure claims are enquiry-ready, with a clear audit trail and well-organised supporting evidence
- Contribute to a professional and responsive client experience through clear communication and high-quality work
- Keep up to date with changes in R&D tax legislation, HMRC guidance and sector best practice
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience working within R&D tax, tax advisory, accounting or a related professional services environment
- Understanding of R&D tax relief, tax credits, qualifying activity and HMRC expectations
- Ability to produce clear written work, including technical summaries, client notes and supporting documentation
- Good numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to work with costing information and Excel-based trackers
- Commercially aware, proactive and keen to deliver a strong client experience
- A relevant qualification such as CTA, ACCA, ATT or AAT, or working towards one, would be beneficial
