SUMMARY
RGL is one of the leading water jetting companies in the UK and has been providing water jetting solutions to customers in a diverse range of industrial sectors for over 40 years. Due to ongoing success, we are actively seeking an additional Technical Officer (Fitter) to join our busy workshop department based near Romsey in the South of England. Technical Officers play an important role in the company by ensuring equipment and plant are maintained, safe, and ready for our Jetting Operators to use on the next job.
Normal hours of work are 8.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday however, flexibility to work outside of these hours to effectively support operational needs is a requirement of the role holder.
PURPOSE STATEMENT
To ensure that diesel-powered pumps, plant, machinery and equipment are checked, maintained, serviced, repaired, stored and issued in line with policies and procedures. To fabricate, rectify, modify, and improve plant and equipment as directed and to carry out routine workshop processes as and when required.
DIMENSIONS
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Carries out pre-delivery inspection and servicing of plant and equipment and ensures that records are updated accordingly
- Diagnoses and rectifies technical faults/ breakdowns
- Takes part in projects as and when required to do so by the Workshop Team Leader or Technical Operations Manager
- Ensures that all equipment is maintained, serviced and correctly stored
- Ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant working environment
- Supports continuous improvement and LEAN practices
- Supporting the jetting teams on breakdowns and or deliveries as well as taking turns on the duty technical support rota
- Perform other duties in the best interest of the business including but not limited to Jetting Operations, duty fitter and driving details
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
The role would ideally suit someone from a military or engineering background with experience of diesel fitting and maintenance. Good hands-on experience coupled with a mechanical aptitude, can do attitude and ability to follow company policies and procedures are essential to the success of the role holder.
An understanding/practical experience of basic electrical systems as well as fabrication/engineering techniques (welding, turning, grinding, etc) will be required, as will an ability to diagnose faults and make the necessary repairs against the diagnosis.
The role holder will be required to play an active role in the running of the workshop and yard and will be involved in the moving of plant and the lifting equipment. Therefore, the role holder will need to be physically fit and able to work in all weathers.
There may be a need for the role holder to travel and occasionally stay away from home to attend breakdowns, deliver equipment and provide technical support to site teams located all over the UK. For this reason, a full clean driving licence is essential preferably with the ability to tow. A HGV licence is desirable but applicants who do not hold an HGV licence will be considered.
The ability/licence to drive a forklift truck is desirable as is a CSCS and/or CCNSG Cards, however, these are not essential to apply for the role as training will be provided.
