PURPOSE STATEMENT
To support the Senior Estimator in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates by collecting, organising, and analysing data related to materials, labour, and time requirements. The Estimator Assistant plays a key role in helping ensure the timely submission of tenders, bids, and pricing documents.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Update and maintain the cost database and estimating tools
- Organise and maintain estimate files, bid documents, and historical data
- Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for projects by gathering data and documentation
- Review project drawings, specifications, and related documents to understand the scope
- Contact suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and price comparisons
- Prepare and format spreadsheets, tender summaries, and reports for review
- Track and follow up on RFQs (Request for Quotations) to ensure timely responses
- Support the coordination of bid submissions, ensuring all documentation is complete and submitted on time
- Participate in site visits or walkthroughs to gather data, when required
- Maintain confidentiality and data integrity throughout all estimating activities
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
CONTEXT
The role of Estimator Assistant is very industry-specific, and there will be a steep learning curve for the role holder to gain the necessary knowledge and experience. Therefore, a good deal of open-mindedness and flexibility is essential to the success of the role. The role holder will be required to attend operational sites to gain a better understanding of the estimating procedure and the needs of clients; therefore, a full UK driving licence is necessary.
Normal hours of work are 8.00 to 17.00 Monday to Friday; however, flexibility to work outside of these hours to effectively support operational needs is a requirement of the role holder.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Able to interpret/understand a potential Client’s requirements, quantify them, and prepare/send documentation accordingly
- A good understanding of RGL’s services and the environments where they are deployed
- Must be able to read engineers’ drawings and “take off” relevant information
- Must gain a full understanding of the RGL estimating process and associated administration
- An ability to communicate, interact, and gain the respect of clients and colleagues alike
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Strong numerical and analytical skills

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
This role provides an entry point into the estimating and pre-construction field with the potential progression into an Estimator or Contract Supervisor.
