About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Fire Alarm Engineer to act as the on‑site technical authority within our Fire & Life Safety operations team.

This is a hands‑on, senior role focused on high‑level commissioning, complex fault diagnosis, technical leadership and developing the skills of the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Delivery
  • Produce accurate commissioning documentation and technical reports.
  • Commission addressable and conventional fire alarm systems in line with current standards and manufacturer requirements.
  • Carry out advanced fault finding on complex systems, identifying root cause and corrective actions.
  • Configure system logic, cause & effect programming, and networked panel arrangements.
  • Systems & Technology
  • Work across a wide range of fire alarm platforms including Gent, Advanced, Ziton, Morley and Kentec.
  • Utilise manufacturer software for configuration, diagnostics, and system optimisation.
  • Apply working knowledge of associated systems including air sampling, suppression, and smoke ventilation.
  • Technical Leadership
  • Act as the on‑site technical lead, supporting engineers with complex issues and best practice guidance.
  • Deliver on‑the‑job training and mentoring to engineers at varying experience levels.
  • Support the Engineering Manager with skills development plans and technical standards.
  • Quality and Compliance
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant British Standards, legislation and internal quality procedures.
  • Carry out audits and inspections of completed work to maintain engineering excellence.
  • Identify non‑conformances and support corrective action to prevent recurrence.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Provide professional, confident technical support to clients and stakeholders on‑site.
  • Resolve escalated technical issues while maintaining a strong customer experience.
  • Represent Amthal positively through high standards of workmanship and conduct.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards (e. g., BS 5839, BS 6262) and fire safety legislation.
  • Experience with network configuration and management of fire alarm systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.

About you

  • Proven experience in commissioning and fault‑finding for complex fire alarm systems.
  • Strong technical understanding of systems, programming and diagnostics.
  • The ability to mentor, support and influence other engineers.
  • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and professional communication.
  • A proactive, accountable mindset with a commitment to doing the job right the first time.
