Role: Skilled Operative

Hours: 42.75 hours per week

Salary: Potential earnings from £28,254.33 per annum

The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and practical Skilled Operative to join our busy Durham site at Hackworth Industrial Estate, Shildon.

This is a varied, hands‑on role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in working safely and has experience within a fast‑paced recycling, vehicle dismantling or similar operational environment. You will support the processing of End-of-Life Vehicles and undertake a range of plant, yard and operational duties.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Safely depolluting End-of-Life Vehicles, including the removal and storage of vehicle parts
  • Removing catalytic converters and supporting vehicle dismantling activities
  • Operating plant and equipment, including a 360 grab where trained and authorised
  • Carrying out forklift truck and banksman duties where required
  • Completing relevant paperwork accurately and in a timely manner
  • Carrying out daily checks on plant and equipment, reporting faults and defects promptly
  • Working closely with colleagues and other site teams to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently
  • Maintaining clean, safe and organised work areas at all times
  • Following all environmental, quality, health and safety procedures

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience in vehicle dismantling, vehicle mechanics, recycling or a similar hands‑on environment
  • Experience operating a crane, 360 grab or forklift truck is desirable
  • Confidence working with a wide range of vehicle makes and models
  • A reliable, hardworking individual with a practical and positive approach
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a busy operational environment
  • Strong health and safety awareness, with good attention to detail
  • The ability to follow instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • A willingness to undertake further training where required
