About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at a stunning country estate in North Yorkshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly regarded restaurant that champions an estate-to-plate philosophy, creating seasonal menus inspired by its own kitchen gardens and the very best local producers. Sustainability, seasonality and exceptional ingredients are at the heart of everything the team creates.
Working closely alongside the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, maintaining consistently high standards while helping to develop the team and deliver exceptional food and service. This role would suit an experienced Sous Chef looking for their next challenge or an ambitious Junior Sous Chef ready to progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef with the daily running of the kitchen
- Lead the team during service in the absence of the Head Chef
- Maintain exceptional food quality and consistency
- Assist with stock control, ordering and achieving company targets
- Work with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from the estate and local producers
- Ensure food safety, hygiene and Health & Safety standards are maintained
- Support, coach and develop junior chefs
- Contribute fresh ideas towards seasonal menus and daily specials
- Help maintain a clean, organised and professional kitchen environment
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Junior Sous Chef
- Experience within a quality fresh-food restaurant, hotel or gastro pub
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Passion for seasonal cooking and quality British produce
- Positive, hands‑on attitude with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to perform under pressure within a busy kitchen
- Creative approach with enthusiasm for menu development
