Location: Preston, with nationwide travel

Hours: Monday to Friday, 42.75 hours per week

Salary: Potential earnings from Β£28,254.33 per annum, plus car allowance

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Environmental & Compliance Advisor to join our established HSEQ team.

Reporting to the Environmental & Compliance Manager, you will provide environmental and compliance support across our UK operations, helping to ensure sites meet legislative, regulatory and environmental permit requirements.

Based at our Preston site, with regular nationwide travel, you will work closely with site management and operational teams to maintain high environmental standards, support the retention of ISO 14001 accreditation and drive continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line environmental and compliance support across our sites.
  • Support the retention of ISO 14001 accreditation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System.
  • Undertake quarterly environmental audits and other assurance activities, ensuring actions are tracked through to completion.
  • Ensure environmental permit requirements are understood and complied with.
  • Prepare and coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual environmental returns for regulators and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain records and coordinate air, land and water monitoring required under site permits, ensuring reports are submitted within required timescales.
  • Review site plans and support updates as sites develop or change.
  • Act as a competent environmental advisor to operational teams and support the delivery of projects.
  • Support investigations into environmental incidents, near misses and compliance issues.Assist with the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, strategies and improvement plans.
  • Collate environmental data and statistics to support internal and Board reporting.
  • Build effective relationships with Site Managers, TCMs, regulators and other key stakeholders.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience within recycling, waste management or an industrial environment involving environmental permits or waste compliance.
  • Good knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience of environmental auditing, reporting and compliance management.
  • WAMITAB and/or IEMA qualification preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Excel.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Organised, proactive and comfortable working independently across multiple sites.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide.
