Mura Technology’s mission is to protect the land, oceans and air from pollution caused by plastic mismanagement. We are pioneering a globally scalable hydrothermal plastic recycling technology, Hydro-PRT®, to prevent millions of tonnes of plastic waste and CO2 from entering our natural environment every year, turning a resource worth $1.05tn annually (by 2033) into a valuable global commodity. By recycling the ‘unrecyclable’ – plastic waste materials currently sent to landfill, incineration or leaked into the environment – Mura’s advanced recycling technology is contributing towards a circular economy, while circular hydrocarbons produced via Hydro-PRT® significantly reduce carbon emissions from the plastics industry by replacing fossil resources in the manufacturing of new plastic.
We are partnering with some of the largest global companies to scale our technology worldwide. Our ambition is for 1,500,000 tonnes of annual plastic recycling capacity in operation or development by 2032. The company is based in Teesside, UK, with offices in London and Singapore.
About the role: The Operations Engineer is part of the Mura Technology Operations Team responsible for safely and efficiently managing the company’s operating sites to meet production and sustainability targets. The Operations Team ensures that all plant operations and maintenance activities meet health and safety requirements, as well as environmental regulations.
Initially based on Mura Technology’s first hydrothermal plastic recycling plant at Wilton, the role will focus on the successful start-up and early operation of the facility working with the onsite operations team to embed operating standards and practices. To deliver on performance targets, the Operations Engineer will be key in providing performance monitoring and benchmarking to determine improvements to plant and operations.
Following successful early operations at Wilton, the Operations Engineer will continue to provide first line technical support to the plant whilst supporting the rollout and ongoing enhancement of Hydro-PRT® technology by providing essential operational expertise to P&ID reviews, hazard studies, LOPA assessments, 3D model reviews, and broader project development activities.
With the ongoing expansion of Mura Technology’s operating site portfolio, the Operations Engineer role offers a clear development pathway into management or senior leadership, including the opportunity to take on full responsibility for one or multiple sites.
Summary of Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Working in close collaboration with the plant operations team to anticipate and identify operational issues, and lead daily plant troubleshooting to ensure production objectives are achieved and safety and environmental standards are maintained, including compliance with relevant permits.
- Maintain production planning tools and issue accurate, timely production schedules to support effective operational execution.
- Maintain plant mass‑balance and loss‑accounting tools to track production and identify performance killers for operational reporting and performance dashboards.
- Audit compliance with operator standards and Mura Technology requirements.
- Lead incident investigations.
- Operations signatory for MoC processes and commissioning lead for plant modifications.
- Develop and deliver training materials to plant operating teams.
- Review operating procedures, job methods, and supporting documentation and embed learning from incident investigations and human‑factors analysis.
- Provide operational support to the rollout and ongoing enhancement of Hydro-PRT® technology and provide essential expertise to P&ID reviews, hazard studies, LOPA assessments, 3D model reviews, and broader project development activities.
- Provide commissioning and operations expertise to future Mura sites and licensees.

- Degree in chemical engineering or related subject.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a petrochemical operations, or similar, environment.

- Is able to take initiative, making decisions autonomously, and manage tasks and responsibilities with minimal oversight.
- Can convey information effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, to a variety of audiences.
- Works collaboratively and effectively with others in order to achieve a shared goal by developing and maintaining good working relationships.
- Cooperates with colleagues, contributing to group efforts, and supporting others in a way that maximises team performance.
