Are you an ambitious commercial leader with experience in utilities, arboriculture,vegetation management, environmental services or infrastructure?

We're looking for an exceptional Utilities Sector Lead to take ownership of a growing business unit and drive its next phase of growth. This is far more than a traditional business development role. You'll be responsible for developing strategy, winning work, building client relationships, leading operational growth and delivering sustainable profitability across our Utilities Arboriculture and Vegetation Management division.

The Opportunity

As Utilities Sector Lead, you will have full responsibility for the commercial growth and performance of the Utilities business unit. Working closely with the Managing Director and operational teams, you will identify new opportunities, secure contracts and framework agreements, develop strategic partnerships and ensure the successful delivery and profitability of the sector.

You'll be expected to think strategically, act commercially and lead from the front.

Key Responsibilities

Business Growth & Development

  • Develop and implement the growth strategy for the Utilities business unit.
  • Identify, pursue and secure new business opportunities across utilities, infrastructure, environmental and vegetation management sectors.
  • Build and manage a strong sales pipeline capable of delivering ambitious growth targets.
  • Secure framework agreements and long-term contracts with utility operators, principal contractors and infrastructure providers.
  • Represent the business at industry events, exhibitions, client meetings and networking forums.
  • Deliver agreed revenue, margin and profitability targets.
  • Lead tendering, bid submissions and commercial negotiations.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and procurement pipelines.
  • Support pricing strategies and commercial decision-making.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop trusted relationships with key decision-makers and procurement teams.
  • Create long-term strategic partnerships that generate repeat business.
  • Act as a senior representative of the business across the utilities sector.

Operational & Strategic Leadership

  • Support the mobilisation and successful delivery of new contracts.
  • Work alongside Contract Managers to develop teams and improve performance.
  • Implement business plans and contribute to strategic company objectives.
  • Promote a positive culture focused on safety, quality and continuous improvement.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record in business development, commercial management or sectorleadership.
  • Experience winning and managing contracts within utilities, infrastructure, environmentalor arboricultural sectors.
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Experience of public and private sector procurement processes.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Degree or Level 5 qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Highly Desirable

  • Utility Arboriculture and Vegetation Management experience.
  • Understanding of DNOs and utility frameworks.
  • Existing relationships with organisations such as National Grid, UK Power Networks, SSEN, SP Energy Networks or Northern Powergrid.
  • Experience securing framework agreements.
