Full-time Permanent Entry Level
Marchwood Southampton
Competitive Salary + benefits
If you want to join an ambitious, proudly independent company with a fast‑moving environment, John Wainwright & Co. Ltd has a brand‑new opportunity for you. Established in 1891, we are one of the UK’s largest independent quarrying and asphalt businesses with strong family values and a commitment to doing things the right way. As we expand into concrete with our new Marchwood site on Southampton water, we’re looking for people who share our values: personal, professional, and ethical. Join a business where people come first and careers are built for the long term.
We are looking to recruit Concrete Drum Drivers to join our Marchwood Team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the safe loading, transporting, and discharging of fresh concrete, representing the Wainwright brand through professional conduct on every site you visit. As a key frontline member of our ready‑mix team, you’ll build positive relationships with customers, ensure timely and accurate deliveries, and uphold the highest standards of safety, service, and vehicle care.
You will operate a Class 2 concrete mixer truck, completing daily vehicle checks, collecting correctly batched loads from the plant, and positioning the vehicle safely and accurately on customer sites, often in challenging or confined areas. You’ll control the mixer drum and chute systems to deliver concrete as required, maintain accurate tachograph and delivery paperwork, communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, and consistently follow all health and safety procedures.
Alongside keeping your vehicle clean—including regular drum and chute wash‑downs—you’ll also support general depot duties when needed. This is a hands‑on, fast‑paced role where you’ll need to stay calm under pressure and adapt to varying site conditions and delivery schedules. As a flexible, team‑minded driver with a proactive, can-do attitude, you’ll play an important part in keeping daily operations running smoothly and assisting the wider team wherever required.
Working Monday to Friday during daytime hours, with occasional Saturdays as required, in accordance with driver regulations and the Working Time Directive to meet the operational needs of the business.
