We are seeking a commercially driven and highly skilled Technical Sales & Appointed Person to bridge the gap between business growth and engineering safety. In this hybrid role, you will be responsible for driving business growth by securing contract lifting projects, while retaining the sole technical authority to plan, assess risk, and oversee those lifting operations. You will act as the trusted technical expert for our clients, from the initial point of contact through to site survey and the final, safe execution of the lift.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Business Development & Technical Sales
    • Pipeline Growth: Identify and secure new business opportunities within sectors such as construction, infrastructure, renewables and utilities.
    • Client Advisory: Meet with prospective clients to understand their lifting requirements, positioning our engineering capabilities as the ideal solution.
    • Estimation & Bidding: Conduct accurate commercial estimating, calculate project costs (crane hire, transport, rigging, labour, permits), and produce competitive commercial proposals.
    • Contract Management: Advise clients on the legal and financial differences between standard crane hire and fully managed Contract Lifts, ensuring appropriate contract selection.
    • Strategy: Develop and implement business line strategy for keeping us at the forefront of technology and implementation within the space.
  • Technical Lift Planning & Appointed Person Duties
    • Site Surveys: Visit client sites to assess spatial constraints, access routes, and underground hazards.
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an Appointed Person on complex engineering, construction, or industrial projects.
    • Engineering & Design: Draft detailed, compliant lift plans, Method Statements (RAMS), and crane positioning drawings in accordance with LOLER 1998, BS 7121 and LEEA guidelines.
    • Calculations: Perform precise calculations for ground bearing pressures, outrigger mat sizing, and lifting accessory configurations.
    • Project Delivery & Safety: Brief site teams, verify the competence of the lifting team, and occasionally supervise complex or high-value lifts to ensure total compliance.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Lifting Certification: Valid CPCS A61 Appointed Person (Blue card).
  • Commercial Experience: Proven track record in technical sales, account management, or business development within the crane hire, plant hire, or heavy lifting industries.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert knowledge of crane duty charts, rigging hardware, and lift planning software (e.g., AutoCAD, Liccon, etc).
  • Regulatory Expertise: Thorough understanding of LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998, and British Standards BS 7121.
  • Drivers Licence: Full, clean driving licence (essential for frequent regional client and site visits).

Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):

  • Sales revenue and gross profit margins achieved against quarterly targets.
  • Zero safety incidents or regulatory breaches on planned operations.
  • Client retention and growth of key accounts.
  • Manage the utilisation targets of lifting plant.
