An opportunity has arisen to join the IT Department for one of the UK’s leading travel groups. We are currently looking to recruit an IT Support Technician to be based between our Head Office in Glasgow and Ayr office, with travel to other business locations when required.
What will I be doing?
- Providing 1st line support and resolving IT issues either remotely or on-site.
- Administration and maintenance of active directory and group policies.
- Administration and maintenance of shared files and folders.
- Administration and maintenance of data and system backups and DR solutions ensuring protection and fit for purpose.
- Ensure always the security and compliance of our network and infrastructure including backups, anti-virus, firewalls, remote access, etc.
- Installing and configuring new laptops, desktops and VoIP phones.
- Relocating computer hardware during desk and office moves.
- Liaising with third party providers on support issues.
- Administration and routine maintenance of all server hardware and infrastructure (cloud and on-prem) including physical and virtual servers, firewalls, switches, printers, network, patching, phones, etc.
- Maintenance and continual improvement of user support documentation which includes writing articles on the self-help IT knowledge base and ensuring they are kept up to date.
- Monitoring the infrastructure and responding to any outages that arise.
- Troubleshooting server hardware and infrastructure problems.
- Accept ownership for assigned incidents and own the end-to-end process keeping the user updated throughout.
- Participation in on-call rota for business-critical issues.
What are the desired key skills and qualifications needed?
- HND qualification in a relevant IT subject.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Server operating systems and their roles such as Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS and IIS.
- Knowledge or understanding of Linux server operating system and server roles such as Apache, MySQL and Asterisk.
- Basic knowledge of Cloud Services (Microsoft Azure, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, In Tune and Amazon Web Services).
- Strong IT Skills with an interest in technology.
- Ability to solve problems with excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide step-by-step solutions to users.
- Ability to react quickly whilst working under pressure and being able to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Able to work in a team or independently.
Anything else?
- Full UK driving license with own car.
- Experience in a similar role is not essential but would be an advantage.
- Additional hours of work may be required, as determined by the needs of the business.
