Overview

To create a welcoming, happy and helpful atmosphere by providing exceptional customer service as part of the Trebah Kitchen team. In doing so, post holders will, as part of a team, ensure that Trebah Kitchen maintains its reputation by meeting and exceeding the high standards that we and our visitors expect. This role focuses on serving our visitors front of house in either the main cafe and/or beach cafe but will require the post-holder to work flexibly across kitchen porter and basic food preparation duties when required.

A positive can-do attitude is more important than experience as full training will be given, but punctuality and the ability to communicate in an articulate & friendly manner is essential. This position is flexible across 7 days but we are ideally looking for more staff to cover during the week, Mon - Fri.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the café is clean and presentable throughout service times.
  • Ensure the counter is well stocked, prepared and cleaned as necessary.
  • Be fully informed and up to date on menu options and menu changes, liaise with supervisors and chefs before shift begins.
  • Take customer’s orders for food courteously and efficiently, offering assistance as required ensuring the customer is dealt with before moving on to the next.
  • Operate the electronic tills and PDQ efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare a variety of coffees to a high standard (barista training will be given).
  • Maintain the high standards of hygiene and food safety required (the role will include online training in food hygiene).
  • Operate dishwasher: Wash, stack and transfer crockery and cutlery stocks to kitchen and service areas.
  • Required to drive the company van when working in the boathouse cafe on the beach.
  • Assist with the promotion of Trebah Garden Trust generally by communicating our programme of events & activities and the benefits of Trebah Membership.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service and promote good practice within the café and Trebah.
  • Answer telephone enquiries in a polite and professional manner.
  • Be responsible for passing on any visitor feedback received.
  • All employees have a responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others when carrying out their duties.

Knowledge and skills required

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good standard of personal hygiene.
  • Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Wear uniform provided, ensuring it is clean and tidy and observing good hygiene standards at all times.
  • The ability to understand written instructions/information.

Experience required

  • Able to demonstrate experience of a strong customer service ethos.
  • Previous experience in a food and drink environment.
