This is a newly created position within our growing finance team, with a distinct focus: supporting the accounting and compliance for our CEO's external investment portfolio, while also helping with the day-to-day running of the Tropic accounts. It is a varied role that combines monthly management accounts and reporting with investment oversight and hands-on transactional work, giving the right person broad exposure across the finance function and good scope to develop. You’ll also be encouraged to make good use of AI tools as part of the way we work, helping the team work more efficiently across both the portfolio and the wider accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records for the CEO's external investments.
- Ensure each investment is accounted for in line with the relevant accounting and compliance requirements.
- Reconcile investment-related transactions and balances.
- Prepare clear, regular summaries on the position and performance of the portfolio.
- Liaise with external advisers and investee company contacts as needed.
- Carry out bank reconciliations across company accounts.
- Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts.
- Support month-end close, including accruals, prepayments and journals.
- Prepare the monthly management accounts, including supporting commentary and variance analysis against budget and prior periods.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis to support decision-making across the business.
- Work closely with the wider finance team on day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Make use of AI tools to support day-to-day accounting work — for example drafting and checking reconciliations, summarising data, and speeding up routine tasks — always with appropriate review and care over accuracy.
What We’re Looking For
- Part-qualified (ACCA or CIMA) or actively studying, or qualified by experience.
- Proven experience preparing monthly management accounts, with the commentary and analysis to go alongside them, in a similar accounts or management accountant role.
- Strong with reconciliations, month-end processes and cash flow.
- Comfortable handling sensitive information with discretion.
- Good with accounting systems (NetSuite experience an advantage) and confident in Excel.
- Open to using AI tools in day-to-day accounting work, with good judgement about when to rely on them and when to check the details yourself.
- Organised, accurate, and able to manage a varied workload.
