Job Summary

The Clinical Manager – Occupational Healthis responsible forthe clinical leadership, operational management, and quality assurance of occupational health services. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based occupational health care that supports employee wellbeing, promotes workplace health and safety, andcomplies withrelevant professional, legal, and regulatory requirements.

The Clinical Manager provides leadership to multidisciplinary occupational health teams, oversees clinical governance, manages service performance, and works collaboratively with employers, employees, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to achieve positive health and business outcomes.

The role supports the implementation of clinical governance requirements, consistent clinical standards, and quality assurance processes across occupational health services, working under the direction of senior clinical leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide professional and clinical leadership to occupational health practitioners, nurses, physicians, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based occupational health services.
  • Support clinical decision-making and provide guidance on complex occupational health cases.
  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement across all clinical activities.
  • Provideday-to-day clinical guidance to occupational health staff, escalating complex, high-risk, or strategic matters to theappropriate seniorclinical lead.
  • Promote a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and patient-centredoccupational health care.

Service Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of occupational health services.
  • Ensure services are delivered efficiently, meeting contractual obligations, service standards, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitor workload, staffing levels, and resource allocation to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Develop and implement service improvement initiatives.

Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, andorganisationalpolicies.
  • Maintainaccurateclinical records and oversee documentation standards.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes and service performance metrics.
  • Implement and manageTMICC'sclinical governance activities including audit, incident review, learning from incidents, clinical risk management, and quality improvement actions.
  • Assistwith preparation for internal and external audits, inspections, accreditations, and service reviews, ensuring evidence and actions are appropriately documented.
  • Contribute to the delivery of clinical governance principles across occupational health services, including patient safety, clinical effectiveness, risk management, audit, education, information governance, and patient or employee experience.

Occupational Health Service Delivery

  • Oversee occupational health assessments, fitness-for-work evaluations, health surveillance programs, sickness absence management, vaccination programs, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Ensureappropriate managementof workplace health risks and occupational illnesses.
  • Support return-to-work and workplace adjustment programs.
  • Advise employers on occupational health matters and workplace health strategies.
  • Support the delivery of workplace wellbeing, rehabilitation, health promotion, and preventative healthprogrammesalignedwithoccupational health priorities.
  • Contribute occupational health input to health risk assessments, occupational exposure monitoring, safe working practices, and workplace health risk reduction initiatives.
  • Support medical emergency response planning, business continuity planning, and site-level occupational health preparedness asrequired.

Team Management and Development

  • Recruit, supervise, mentor, and appraise clinical staff.
  • Identifytraining and development needs andfacilitateongoing professional development.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Manage performance issuesin accordance withorganisationalpolicies.
  • Overseecompliance with clinical training, CPD, appraisal, revalidation, competency monitoring, and professional development requirements for clinical staffensuring the competency matrix is updated
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to occupational health clinicians, supporting professional growth, reflective practice, and safe clinical decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build andmaintaineffective relationships with clients, managers, HR teams, health and safety professionals, and external healthcare providers.
  • Provideexpert occupational health advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings, service reviews, and strategic planning activities.
  • Develop andmaintainprofessional working relationships with client representatives, HR, HSE, site leadership, wellbeing teams, and other key stakeholders.
  • Act as a key operational clinical contact for assigned services or sites, ensuring effective communication,timelyescalation, and collaborative problem-solving.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including health and safety, data protection, equality, and employment laws.
  • Monitor and manage clinical and operational risks.
  • Support emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
  • Participate in occupational health incident investigation and reporting where clinical input isrequired, ensuring learning isidentifiedand shared appropriately.
  • Implementandmonitoroccupational health policies, procedures, andprogrammes, including drug and alcohol processes where applicable.

Financial and Operational Responsibilities

  • Assistwith budget planning and resource management.
  • Monitor serviceutilisationand contribute to cost-effective service delivery.
  • Support business development and service growth initiatives where applicable.

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified nurse with current UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration.
  • Specialist qualification in Occupational Health(or working towards).
  • Evidence of leadership or management training.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) relevant to occupational health and clinical management.
  • Previousexperience leading or managing clinical teams.
  • Experience in clinical governance, quality assurance, and risk management.
  • Experience managing complex occupational health cases.
  • Experience working with employers, HR departments, and health and safety professionals.
