Role Overview
The Applications & Platform Engineer is responsible for the management, support and continual improvement of the operational applications and platforms that power services.
The role is focused on application ownership, platform administration, system integration, monitoring, automation and technology transformation.
Working across both cloud and on‑premise environments, the successful candidate will lead application deployments, upgrades, migrations and continual improvements, ensuring critical business systems remain secure, reliable and aligned with operational needs.
Working closely with Infrastructure, Engineering, Service Delivery, Projects and Commercial teams, the role will help deliver new technologies, improve business processes and support the continued evolution of Orbital's operational platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Own operations and administration of a portfolio of operational applications and management platforms.
- Support application deployments, upgrades, migrations and platform lifecycle management.
- Configure, maintain and optimize business‑critical systems.
- Support the integration of applications using APIs, automation and third‑party services.
- Administer monitoring, alerting and reporting platforms to improve operational visibility.
- Manage application performance, availability and operational resilience.
- Coordinate maintenance, patching, licensing and vendor support.
- Support business system improvements and digital transformation initiatives.
- Produce technical documentation, support procedures and platform standards.
- Assist with automation of operational workflows and repetitive administrative tasks.
- Work alongside Engineering and Infrastructure teams to ensure applications are delivered on resilient, secure platforms.
- Support planned maintenance, project delivery and technical escalations.
- Key Qualifications
- Experience administering operational applications, systems and platforms.
- Experience delivering upgrades, migrations and platform implementations.
- Experience supporting monitoring, management or service delivery platforms.
- Knowledge of application lifecycle management and change control.
- Experience integrating business systems through APIs or automation.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Familiarity with virtualization and cloud‑hosted platforms.
- Excellent documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience within an ISP, telecommunications, MSP or technology provider would be advantageous.
