Bloom Works is a new café, floristry and retail space created by The Nunhead Gardener in Camberwell - bringing together speciality coffee, flowers, plants and thoughtfully curated homeware within a calm and beautifully designed environment. We’re looking for an experienced Café Supervisor / Head Barista to help lead the day-to-day running of the café as the space continues to grow. This is a hands‑on role for someone who genuinely cares about excellent coffee, warm hospitality and maintaining high standards across every part of the customer experience.

The café sits within the wider Bloom Works environment alongside our floristry team and retail offering, so we’re looking for someone who enjoys working as part of a collaborative and creative team. You’ll often be leading the café independently, particularly during quieter periods, so confidence, organisation and initiative are important.

The Role

  • Preparing consistently excellent coffee to a professional standard
  • Dialling in espresso and maintaining coffee quality throughout the day
  • Opening and closing the café
  • Setting up and closing down the espresso machine correctly each day
  • Setting up and maintaining the outdoor seating area
  • Delivering warm, friendly and attentive customer service
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and welcoming café environment
  • Ensuring sit‑in customers receive thoughtful table service and hospitality
  • Keeping toilets clean, stocked and well maintained throughout the day
  • Monitoring and ordering café stock, including coffee, milk, pastries, drinks and sundries
  • Ensuring food safety, hygiene and health & safety procedures are followed consistently
  • Maintaining and cleaning café equipment including the espresso machine, grinder, fridges, ice machine and glass washer
  • Supporting and training other baristas and café team members
  • Working closely with the Bloom Works floristry and retail teams to ensure the smooth running of the wider space

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is

  • An experienced barista with strong coffee knowledge and technical ability
  • Confident working independently and taking ownership of a café operation
  • Warm, welcoming and naturally hospitable
  • Calm, organised and proactive
  • Passionate about customer experience and presentation
  • Comfortable maintaining high operational and cleanliness standards
  • Interested in creative retail spaces, flowers, plants and interiors
  • Reliable, professional and detail‑oriented
  • Happy working weekends as part of a rota

Previous supervisory experience is preferred, though we’re equally interested in strong baristas ready to step into a leadership role. Experience within an independent or speciality café environment would be a strong advantage.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay, based on experience
  • Staff discount across The Nunhead Gardener
  • Ongoing training and development
  • A supportive and creative working environment
  • The opportunity to help shape and grow a new café concept from the beginning
  • The chance to work within a unique café, floristry and retail space
