About the Role

My client is seeking an ambitious and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen at one of Yorkshire's finest coastal dining destinations specialising in fish dishes.

Known for its exceptional food, relaxed atmosphere and commitment to using high-quality local produce, the restaurant has earned an outstanding reputation and continues to build on its success. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of an established kitchen while helping shape its future.

Applications are welcomed from experienced Head Chefs, as well as talented Sous Chefs who are ready to take the next step into their first Head Chef position. My client is committed to supporting the right person in making that transition.

What You'll Be Doing

As Head Chef, you'll be responsible for:

  • Leading, motivating and developing the kitchen team (current team of 4 full time chefs + part time chefs)
  • Delivering consistently high standards of food quality and presentation
  • Creating and developing seasonal menus using fresh, locally sourced ingredients
  • Managing stock control, food costs and kitchen budgets
  • Maintaining exceptional food safety and hygiene standards
  • Working closely with the owners to continue developing the restaurant's excellent reputation
  • Driving consistency, creativity and continuous improvement throughout the kitchen
  • The supply chain is set up and the client is happy with all their existing suppliers, reviewing in 2027

What We're Looking For

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience as a Head Chef, or be an experienced Sous Chef ready to progress
  • At least three years' professional chef experience
  • A genuine passion for fresh, seasonal cooking
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and develop a team
  • Good commercial awareness, including food GP and kitchen cost management
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • A proactive attitude and the ambition to help drive the business forward

A full driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Hours

  • Weekend and evening work required as part of the rota
  • The site quietens down in Winter allowing for 3/4 day working weeks

From £40,000 per year, with opportunities for progression based on experience and performance.

This is an opportunity to join an ambitious hospitality business with an established reputation for quality and excellence.

Whether you're already leading a successful kitchen or you're a talented Sous Chef looking for your first Head Chef position, my client offers the chance to make a real impact, develop your career and lead a passionate team committed to delivering exceptional food and service.
