About DataVita
DataVita is a next-generation cloud and infrastructure company operating from Tier III-certified data centres in Scotland. We work at the bleeding edge of AI adoption, automation, and how these technologies can be integrated into complex legacy environments to deliver genuine transformation. DataVita is the fastest growing technology company in Scotland, with plans to deploy and invest over £2 billion in the coming years.
About the Role
We're looking for a Junior Solutions & Innovation Engineer to join our growing team and play a hands-on role in deploying and rolling out AI-powered solutions for DataVita and its clients. You’ll work across a broad range of technologies, data sources, and business challenges, so we need people with a natural curiosity and an investigative mindset, the kind of person who enjoys understanding how things connect, digging into unfamiliar systems, and making sense of complex information. You won't just be writing code; you'll be learning our products, understanding our clients' data, and figuring out how modern AI tools can deliver real value.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers in the Solutions and Innovation team, as well as infrastructure, operations, and product colleagues, gaining exposure to everything from API design and data pipelines to AI model integration and cloud-native deployment. This is an ideal opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer who wants to build serious skills at the intersection of software engineering, data, and AI, in an environment where the work matters and the pace is fast.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Getting to know our world. Developing a thorough understanding of DataVita’s services, platforms, data sets, and client solutions, becoming someone the team can rely on to connect the dots across a complex landscape.
- Deploying and supporting AI solutions. Helping design, build, and roll out integrations that connect public AI models (commercial APIs and open-weight models) to enterprise data sources, with appropriate security, governance, and reliability.
- Working with modern AI tooling. Using tools such as Claude, Claude Code, and similar AI assisted development and reasoning tools as part of your daily workflow - and helping evaluate new tools as they emerge.
- Building integrations and APIs. Developing and maintaining API layers, middleware, and data pipelines that connect systems, expose functionality, and enable clients to consume AI capabilities through clean, well-documented interfaces.
- Preparing data for AI. Supporting data ingestion, transformation, chunking, embedding, and indexing workflows that make organisational data usable by AI systems (including retrieval-augmented generation patterns).
- Collaborating across teams. Working with infrastructure, operations, product, and client-facing teams to translate business problems into technical designs and deliver against agreed timescales.
- Contributing to governance. Supporting responsible AI practices including model evaluation, output quality monitoring, prompt management, cost tracking, and data-residency compliance.
What You’ll Bring
- A degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Competence in Python, whether through coursework, personal projects, or professional experience.
- Familiarity with APIs (RESTful APIs, how to consume and build them) and a basic understanding of how systems integrate with one another.
- An investigative, generalist mindset, you're the kind of person who enjoys learning new domains, asking questions, and making sense of complex or unfamiliar information.
- Good communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly and work effectively as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in AI, data, and how these technologies are being applied in real-world enterprise settings.
Highly Advantageous
- Experience (including project or coursework experience) with any of the following: AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
- Vector databases (e.g. Weaviate, Qdrant, pgvector) or embedding/RAG pipelines.
- Agent or orchestration frameworks (e.g. LangChain, LlamaIndex, Semantic Kernel, Claude Agent SDK).
- Experience with version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, containerisation (Docker), or infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Experience with ServiceNow or other enterprise service management platforms.
- Familiarity with knowledge graphs, graph databases, or data governance tooling.
- Experience building SDKs or developer tooling.
- Understanding of prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or model evaluation techniques.
- Exposure to Kubernetes or GPU workload scheduling.
What You Will Get From This Role
- A fast-track into working with cutting-edge cloud, HPC, and AI infrastructure, real workloads, real clients, real impact.
- Mentoring and development from experienced engineers in a team that values knowledge-sharing.
- The chance to help shape DataVita’s AI and data integration offerings during a pivotal period of growth.
- A collaborative, forward-looking environment where your ideas and initiative will be valued.
What You Will Get
- The chance to shape a creative function inside a fast-scaling business.
- Direct exposure to every area of the company.
- Training and development throughout your time at DataVita.
- 33 days annual leave.
- Life assurance at 4x salary.
- Group income protection at 70% of salary for up to 2 years.
- Help@Hand: remote GP - physiotherapy, nutritionist, and more.
- Cycle to Work and EV car salary sacrifice schemes.
- 6 fully expensed company events per year.
- Option to donate to charity through salary.
