The Role

We are seeking a confident, motivated, and experienced Occupational Therapist (OT) to join an Independent Specialist Day College supporting young people aged 16–23 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. This is a highly autonomous position suited to an OT capable of independently managing a caseload and making clinical decisions on site. You will play a key role in supporting students with diagnoses including ASD, ADHD, dyspraxia, developmental delay, and complex physical needs, contributing directly to the functional, cognitive, sensory, and life‑skills development required for further education, employment, and independent living.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a caseload of 25–30 students, delivering Occupational Therapy as outlined within individual EHCPs.
  • Complete individual assessments, direct interventions, and provide specialist recommendations to develop:
  • Fine motor and sensory‑motor skills
  • Cognitive, social, and life skills
  • Activities of daily living (ADLs)
  • Visual perception
  • Sensory processing skills
  • Upper‑limb tone, positioning, and functional ability
  • Produce detailed written reports to inform:
    • EHCP updates
    • Annual reviews
    • Transition planning for students progressing to new settings
  • Provide progress summaries and review documentation as required throughout the academic year.
  • Recommend and arrange the provision of specialist equipment or environmental adaptations including:
    • Adapted cutlery and kitchen tools
    • Specialist seating
    • Manual handling equipment
    • Regulation aids
    • Handwriting and fine‑motor support tools
  • Work closely with students, their families, and teaching staff to agree OT‑based goals.
  • Devise individual therapy targets and programmes aligned to each learner’s EHCP outcomes.
  • Provide training, guidance, and informal coaching to teachers and teaching assistants, particularly around:
    • Sensory processing
    • Emotional regulation
    • Embedding OT strategies into daily routines and teaching practice

    Requirements

    • Degree in Occupational Therapy with HCPC registration.
    • Experience supporting young people with a range of SEND, including autism and complex physical needs.
    • Confident clinical decision‑maker, able to work autonomously as the sole OT onsite.
    • Strong ability to deliver both direct interventions and indirect therapy programmes.
    • Excellent communication, organisational, and collaborative skills.
