Position: Speech & Language Therapist – Neurodevelopmental Assessments

Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Permanent (Full-Time and Part-Time Available)

Working Pattern: Clinic-Based / Hybrid (Minimum 1-2 days in office)

Salary: £30,000 - £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

This dynamic team delivers high-quality, evidence-based diagnostic assessments for children and young people, collaborating closely with NHS-funded referrals and private pathways to provide exceptional care.

We are seeking Speech & Language Therapists for full-time and part-time roles within our client's Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team based in Huddersfield. This is an exciting and valuable clinic-based/hybrid position (minimum 1-2 days in office) for suitably qualified clinicians working with children and young people referred for autism and/or ADHD assessments via NHS Patient Choice and GP pathways. You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families.

Working with cutting-edge digital workflows and smart report-writing tools, you'll be equipped to focus on what matters most: delivering exceptional care. The role requires conducting comprehensive specialist assessments including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD using established diagnostic tools. You will conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting face-to-face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process
  • Conducting remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom
  • Participating collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed
  • Delivering clear, compassionate feedback to families
  • Producing accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools
  • Writing assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions
  • Working efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Delivering clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable)
  • Attending the Huddersfield clinic base for in-person assessments (minimum 1-2 days per week)

Essential Requirements:

  • HCPC registered Speech & Language Therapist
  • Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults
  • Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD
  • Must have worked within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments - NOT worked alone
  • Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD
  • Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one
  • Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD
  • Knowledge of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations
  • Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting
  • Effective time management and caseload organisation skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in report writing and record keeping
  • Must be eligible to work in the UK

Highly Desirable:

  • Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS-2 and ADI-R
  • Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD
