Position: Mental Health Nurse – Neurodevelopmental Assessments
Location: Harrogate, North Yorkshire
Contract Type: Permanent (Full‑Time and Part‑Time Available)
Working Pattern: Clinic‑Based / Hybrid (Minimum 1‑2 days in office)
Salary: £30,000 – £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Role Overview: You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families. The role requires conducting comprehensive specialist assessments, including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD, using established diagnostic tools. You will conduct developmental history interviews, participate in MDT diagnostic discussions, and deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families.
Responsibilities include:
- Producing accurate clinical reports with diagnostic formulations
- Meeting service KPIs
- Providing clinical supervision to junior team members (depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct face‑to‑face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process
- Conduct remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom
- Participate collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed
- Deliver clear, compassionate feedback to families
- Produce accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools
- Write assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions
- Work efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Deliver clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable)
- Attend the Harrogate clinic base for in‑person assessments (minimum 1‑2 days per week)
Essential Requirements:
- NMC registered Mental Health Nurse
- Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults
- Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD
- Must have worked within a Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments – NOT worked alone
- Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD
- Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one
- Knowledge of DSM‑5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD
- Knowledge of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations
- Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting
- Effective time management and caseload organisation skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in report writing and record keeping
- Must be eligible to work in the UK
Highly Desirable:
- Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS‑2 and ADI‑R
- Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD
