Role Overview: We are seeking Mental Health Nurses for full-time and part-time roles within our client's Neurodevelopmental Assessment Team based in Exeter. This is an exciting and valuable clinic-based/hybrid position for suitably qualified clinicians working with children and young people referred for autism and/or ADHD assessments via NHS Patient Choice and GP pathways. You will join a passionate and supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people and their families.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting comprehensive specialist assessments including diagnostic assessments of individuals with suspected autism and/or ADHD using established diagnostic tools.
- Conducting face-to-face structured observations as part of the neurodevelopmental assessment process.
- Conducting remote developmental history interviews with parents and carers via Zoom.
- Participating collaboratively in peer MDT diagnostic discussions, supported by senior clinicians where needed.
- Delivering clear, compassionate feedback to families.
- Producing accurate clinical reports, including diagnostic formulations, with the help of smart tools.
- Writing assessment reports in a timely and professional manner with appropriate recommendations and interventions.
- Working efficiently to meet service Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Delivering clinical supervision to junior staff members (where applicable).
- Attending the Exeter clinic base for in-person assessments (minimum 1-2 days per week).
Essential Requirements:
- NMC registered Mental Health Nurse.
- Minimum of 1 year experience conducting diagnostic neurodevelopmental/specialist developmental assessments with children and young people OR adults.
- Experience with assessment tools for autism and/or ADHD.
- Must have worked within a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) conducting assessments - NOT worked alone.
- Willing to conduct assessments for BOTH autism AND ADHD.
- Willing to be trained in either area if lacking experience in one.
- Knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for autism and ADHD.
- Knowledge of differential diagnosis in neurodevelopmental presentations.
- Experience working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disorders or mental health difficulties in a clinical setting.
- Effective time management and caseload organisation skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in report writing and record keeping.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
Highly Desirable:
- Trained and experienced in the use of ADOS-2 and ADI-R.
- Additional qualifications in relevant areas of autism and/or ADHD.
