Structural Design Engineer – Structural Steel A leading structural design and manufacturing business is seeking a skilled Design Engineer with a strong background in general construction and structural steel. This role involves working on complex platform floors, access walkways, and associated ancillary structures. Key Responsibilities: Undertake structural design using software such as Tekla Structural Designer or similar. Perform hand calculations with a solid grasp of engineering theory. Apply logical engineering judgment beyond software reliance to solve problems and develop practical, economical solutions. Interpret and apply current codes of practice for steelwork design and manufacture. Develop conceptual sketches through to detailed designs using AutoCAD, Revit, or Tekla Structures. Design steel connections, calculate capacities, and clearly communicate requirements to internal technicians. Collaborate with internal teams from sales to project management, supporting the full lifecycle from conceptual design to manufacture and construction. Ideal Candidate Experience: Practical, hands-on approach combined with strong theoretical analysis skills. Commercial awareness with a focus on cost-effective design. Excellent communication skills, with confidence to participate in design meetings with construction professionals and internal stakeholders. Ability to work independently while being part of a supportive engineering and project team. Engineering academic qualifications are advantageous but not essential. This is a dynamic role offering the opportunity to contribute to innovative structural solutions within a collaborative and commercially focused environment
