Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services Consultancy

Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a respected building services consultancy with 45 years\’ experience delivering sustainable, value-driven engineering solutions. Based in Winchester, this role offers the opportunity to lead mechanical systems design on projects ranging from residential and commercial to healthcare, education, and industrial developments, including schemes valued up to £100m. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of mechanical design delivery, mentor junior engineers, and ensure integrated, low-carbon, energy-efficient solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design of mechanical systems, including HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, and domestic water systems from feasibility to construction
- Produce 2D and 3D coordinated outputs using AutoCAD and Revit; perform dynamic thermal modelling using TAS
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver sustainable, low-carbon, and energy-efficient solutions
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal QA processes and design reviews
- Prepare energy and sustainability reports, PartL/F compliance assessments, and technical documentation
- Conduct site visits to verify installation accuracy and support project coordination
- Engage with clients and contractors, overseeing value-engineering and technical decision-making
Candidate Profile
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working toward chartership (IMechE, CIBSE)
- Minimum 6+ years\’ consultancy experience in mechanical building services design
- Proficiency in TAS, AutoCAD, Revit, IES, and Hevacomp
- Strong knowledge of UK regulations (PartL & PartF, CIBSE guidelines) and sustainable design practices
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Proactive, structured approach with the ability to deliver complex projects on time and budget
