A leading consultancy is seeking an experienced Director to lead and grow its Transport Planning team in Birmingham. This is a senior appointment, suited to an established Associate Director, Technical Director or existing Director who is looking to take the next step in both technical leadership and business development within development planning. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a fast-growing area of the business, shaping strategy locally and regionally while working on high-profile development projects across the UK.

The Role

  • Leading and shaping the transport planning team, setting direction and maintaining technical excellence
  • Driving business growth through work-winning, client development and bid preparation
  • Overseeing project delivery, ensuring quality, consistency and commercial performance
  • Managing and mentoring junior and senior team members, including technical review and staff development
  • Acting as a senior technical authority on complex transport planning commissions
  • Engaging directly with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the wider business
  • Representing the company externally and supporting wider industry engagement

What we’re looking for

  • 10-15 years’ experience within transport planning or development planning
  • Strong technical background in Transport Assessments, Statements and associated development planning work
  • Appeal experience advantageous
  • Professional qualification such as TPP or CEng desirable
  • Proven ability to generate work and maintain strong client relationships
  • Established network within the built environment sector
  • Confident leader with sound project, financial and people management skills
  • Comfortable managing a complex and varied workload
  • Self‑motivated, commercially aware and able to operate autonomously
