An opportunity has become available for a Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing building services consultancy based in Birmingham. This role will involve leading the delivery of mechanical building services design across a wide range of projects within the commercial, healthcare, residential, industrial, retail, care and mixed-use sectors.
The successful Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer will play a key role in the design and coordination of HVAC and mechanical systems, supporting low-carbon and sustainable building solutions across all RIBA stages.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical building services design across multiple project sectors
- Deliver projects through all RIBA design stages from concept to construction
- Design HVAC systems including ventilation, heating, cooling and associated plant systems
- Produce and review specifications, schedules, technical reports and design calculations
- Coordinate designs within multidisciplinary BIM and CAD environments
- Support the integration of low-carbon and renewable technologies into building designs
- Liaise directly with clients, architects, contractors and design teams
- Attend project meetings and provide technical input throughout project delivery
- Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations, British Standards and CIBSE guidance
- Manage workload and project deliverables across multiple live schemes
- Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians
- Contribute towards technical excellence and sustainable design delivery
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or similar
- Proven experience within a building services consultancy environment
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC and mechanical building services systems
- Experience delivering mechanical design across a variety of building sectors
- Competent with industry-standard design and calculation software
- Experience working within BIM/Revit/CAD environments
- Experience with IES VE or other thermal modelling software advantageous
- Strong communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
- Understanding of sustainable and low-energy building design principles
- Full UK driving licence
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership
- CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC) or LCEA accreditation
- Healthcare project experience including HTM compliance knowledge
- Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers
- Knowledge of renewable and low-carbon energy systems
