Senior Transport Planner – Exeter

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join an award-winning independent Civil Engineering and Transport Planning consultancy in Exeter. You’ll play a key role in leading and delivering a range of transport projects across multiple sectors, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers, planners, and technicians. The consultancy has grown to over 40 professionals in recent years, delivering a wide range of projects across the South West including residential, mixed-use, education, renewable energy and more.

The Role

As a Senior Transport Planner, you’ll take a lead role in delivering transport planning and development planning projects, providing technical expertise and project management across the full lifecycle. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Transport Statements, and other technical reports.
  • Leading project delivery and managing client relationships, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Transport Planning and Infrastructure teams.
  • Mentoring and delegating work to junior staff, supporting their technical development.
  • Preparing fee proposals, managing budgets, and supporting business development opportunities.
  • Attending client, local authority, and stakeholder meetings to present and discuss transport solutions.

This is a varied role where you’ll be involved in a wide portfolio of projects, including:

  • Major mixed-use urban extensions
  • Education and health sector developments
  • Renewable energy and infrastructure projects

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and experienced transport planning professional who:

  • Has significant experience in a similar role, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Holds a relevant degree (Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or related).
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of transport planning guidance, policies, and modelling tools (e.g. Junctions 10/ARCADY, LINSIG, TRICS).
  • Has excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience of producing high-quality technical reports.
  • Has experience managing projects, clients, and budgets.
  • Is working towards (or already holds) chartership with CIHT, ICE, or similar (training and support provided).
