We are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical discipline within an ambitious and growing MEP design consultancy. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping electrical engineering solutions for a variety of built-environment projects, ensuring designs are sustainable, robust, compliant with regulations, and aligned with clients' technical and performance requirements.
You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams delivering from early-stage concept through detailed design, construction monitoring and handover, with emphasis on low-carbon and high-performance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Lead electrical design on medium- to large-scale building services projects from concept through to RIBA Stages 4-6, ensuring technical excellence and design coordination.
- Produce and review HV/LV distribution designs, power systems, lighting and controls, emergency & external lighting, fire alarm & life safety systems, and communications infrastructure.
- Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, layouts, schedules and performance criteria that meet regulatory, safety, sustainability and client standards.
- Oversee production of design documentation (schematics, detailed drawings, BIM models), ensuring accuracy and constructability.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and coaching to junior engineers and design staff.
- Coordinate electrical scope with mechanical, public health and architectural disciplines to achieve integrated solutions.
- Advise clients and project teams on electrical compliance, energy efficiency, low-carbon strategies and sustainable design alternatives.
- Act as a point of contact for clients, contractors and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Review contractor submissions, respond to technical queries, and support site inspections and commissioning activities as required.
- Chartered or near-chartered Engineer (CEng / IEng) with relevant professional body (e.g., IET, CIBSE).
- Significant post-qualification experience (ideally 10+ years) in electrical building services consultancy or similar MEP design environment.
- Strong technical capability in electrical engineering design, with proven experience leading diverse projects.
- Proficiency in BIM tools (Revit or equivalent) and electrical design software.
- Demonstrable experience with building regulations, compliance standards and energy modelling principles.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to engage confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in sustainable, low-carbon design and energy-efficient electrical systems.
- Exposure to performance-based design and advanced power/controls systems.
- Prior involvement in RIBA Stages 0-7 workflows and construction monitoring.
